AmeriVein Participates in Operation Giving Back
AmeriVein Founder Dr. Gregory Spitz recently traveled to Honduras to participate in the American College of Surgeons Operation Giving Back. The volunteer mission was designed to provide relief to the medically underserved residents of Choluteca, a poor section of Honduras with a population of 100,000.
Upon arrival, close to 80 patients were triaged, and over 37 patients received operative treatment for their advanced varicose vein problems. The trip was funded by Dr. Spitz and medical supply donations were made by Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center, Rush Copley Medical Center, the Compounder Pharmacy in Aurora, InaVein corporation (which manufactures and sells the TriVex System and TCI Catheter) and AmeriVein.
“It was a gratifying experience to see so many thankful patients upon completion of their treatment,” states Dr. Spitz, a fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS) since 1994. “The return trip will hopefully be able to bring a larger team and more supplies to treat even more patients.”
