Injection Sclerotherapy for Varicose & Spider Vein Treatment
Injection sclerotherapy, a process that involves the injection of liquid into the saphenous vein, is a discredited technique for treatment of varicose veins. It results in an unacceptably high recurrence rate and complications. A newer technique using Foam Sclerotherapy has been used successfully in varicose vein treatment. Unfortunately, the foam bubbles will travel through the body and have been shown to travel to the brain within seconds of the injection. These bubbles can cause symptoms such as temporary blindness and have caused a stroke in at least one person.
At AmeriVein, we consider this technique to be too risky and do not offer Foam Sclerotherapy to our patients at this time. Tumescent Sclerotherapy or Tumescent Enhanced Sclerotherapy is an excellent alternative to Foam Sclerotherapy without the stroke risks. Please also browse our site or contact us for more information on techniques we recommend for spider vein treatment.
