What to Expect

What to ExpectOn your initial consultation you will meet with the surgeon for review of your medical condition, medications and allergies and a physical examination. Your physician will explain your condition and answer any of your questions.

If the surgeon feels it is indicated, you will be scheduled for a diagnostic ultrasound. During your diagnostic ultrasound, the vascular technologist will examine your legs looking for faulty valves and blood clots. The test is painless and is usually completed in 30 minutes.

After your diagnostic ultrasound, you will again meet with the surgeon to discuss the results and formulate a plan to treat your veins. If necessary, you will be custom fit for prescription compression stockings.

If surgery is needed, it is scheduled at this time. If your second leg requires surgical treatment, it is generally scheduled two to four weeks later. Additional treatments such as therapeutic ultrasound, electrostimulation and iontophoresis are performed in our office as needed.

The treatment of spider veins and reticular veins begins after the treatment of varicose veins is completed. Tumescent Enhanced Sclerotherapy (TES®), laser or a combination of the two will be performed as determined by your physician.

For your comfort and privacy, we recommend you bring shorts to each office visit.
