Gregory A. Spitz, MD, FACS

Dr. Spitz graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana with a BS degree in Biology in 1980 and received his M.D. degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1984. His five-year general residency was completed at the University of Illinois in 1989. He became a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery (Board Certified) in 1990 and re-certified in 1998. He was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) in 1994. Dr. Spitz has been in the Fox Valley since 1991. He has served on the board of directors of the Kane County Medical Society, including being Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President and President. He is a long-standing member of the American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, the Warren Cole Surgical Society, the American College of Phlebology. He has served on physician advisory boards for CIGNA, Principal, and Health-South Corporations.

Dr. Spitz has published numerous articles in professional journals on varicose vein surgery and hernia repair. Dr. Spitz invented the TriVex System in 1996 and holds several patents in the field of vein surgery and other areas of medicine. He has traveled extensively teaching varicose vein surgery to physicians. Dr. Spitz invented the TCI (tumescent catheter inversion) System® which was FDA approved in 2004 and is now on its way to becoming the gold standard in removing the saphenous vein with minimally invasive technique. Most recently, Dr. Spitz introduced Tumescent Enhanced Sclerotherapy® which promises more effective and efficient treatment for patients in an office setting. Dr. Spitz is a senior attending and on the teaching staff at Rush-Copley Medical Center and also performs surgery at Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center.
