Varicose Vein Stripping Treatment

In traditional vein stripping, an incision is made at the ankle and a wire is passed up to the groin. A second is made in the groin and the vein is tied around the wire and the entire saphenous vein is removed from the groin to the ankle. This vein treatment developed a bad reputation because a nerve below the knee is frequently damaged resulting in significant pain and disability. When this varicose vein treatment is modified, the vein from the groin to the knee can be removed inverted with a small incision in the groin and a tiny incision by the knee. This is a quick, effective and definitive method of removing the saphenous vein, a very common source of varicose veins. Any branches of the saphenous vein are divided through the groin incision. Untreated, these branches may be the recurrent cause of varicose veins. When this procedure is combined with the TriVex ® procedure, the tumescent fluid vein injection is targeted around the saphenous vein resulting in minimal bruising and more rapid recovery.
